My research is focused on environmental fluid mechanics and sediment transport and on understanding their roles in setting sedimentary environments and geomorphic changes of earth surface, from rivers, coasts to submarines.
Basic and applied sciences stay on an equal footing to me. While the microscopic worlds of turbulent eddies and granular material intrigue me very much, practical knowledge is extracted from them and incorporated into the numerical and mathematical models which serve for better understanding beautiful natural landscape and also for the engineering purposes like flood hazard prediction and mitigation, paleohydaulics reconstruction and strategic plan for sustainability of natural and anthropic systems. I believe that diverse research methods can lead to different perspectives that comprehensively constitute our understanding of earth surface. My research therefore consists of numerical modeling, theoretical analysis, and both field- and lab- scale experiments. |
